Prevent Duty

At St. Peter’s Catholic Primary School, the safety, well-being, and protection of our pupils are our highest priorities. Safeguarding is not just a policy; it is an integral part of our daily school culture.

As part of this unwavering commitment, all members of our staff have undertaken comprehensive PREVENT training, in line with the government's Counter-Terrorism and Security Act.

The PREVENT strategy forms a crucial branch of our wider safeguarding procedures. Just as we protect children from physical harm, neglect, or online dangers, PREVENT equips our staff with the skills to protect children from the threat of radicalisation, extremism, and grooming.

Our training ensures that all staff are able to:

  • Recognise Vulnerabilities: Identify early indicators that a child or family may be vulnerable to extremist influences or radical narratives.

  • Act Swiftly and Appropriately: Understand the correct, sensitive pathways to raise concerns and secure early intervention support.

  • Foster Resilience: Create a safe, open classroom environment where children are taught fundamental British values—including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs.

Through vigilantly implementing the PREVENT duty, we ensure that St. Peter's remains a safe haven where all children can grow, learn, and thrive, protected from extremist views.

If you have any questions regarding our safeguarding policies or our implementation of the PREVENT duty, please do not hesitate to contact our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) via the school office.
