Prayer and Liturgy
At St Peter’s, we believe that prayer is a deeply personal and expressive journey. We teach our children that we can connect with God in many different ways—whether through traditional formal and liturgical prayer, quiet reflection, or active expression like dance, gesture, mime, and signing.
Alongside the traditional prayers they learn by heart, our pupils are taught to frame their daily conversations with God around three core pillars:
-
Thanking and Praising: Celebrating God’s goodness.
-
Asking: Seeking guidance and help for ourselves and others.
-
Sorry: Reflecting on our choices and asking for forgiveness.
Our Weekly Assemblies & Collective Worship
At St Peter’s, our weekly assemblies and Celebration of the Word are central to school life. They provide a joyful opportunity for our community to gather, reflect on our faith, and celebrate our shared values.
Our structured weekly journey includes:
-
Monday: Whole School Assembly – Led by the Headteacher, this assembly brings our entire school community together to reflect on the Sunday Gospel and the current Liturgical Calendar, setting a faithful tone for the week ahead.
-
Tuesday & Wednesday: Key Stage Assemblies – Led by our teaching staff on a rota basis, these focused gatherings (Juniors on Tuesday, Infants on Wednesday) explore vital themes such as Catholic Social Teaching, the impactful work of CAFOD, and key moments within the Liturgical Year.
-
Thursday & Friday: Celebration of the Word – Held quietly within the comfort of individual classrooms, these intimate sessions are beautifully led by either the class teacher or the children themselves, encouraging active leadership and personal reflection.
